Question:

169 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid her first instalment of the REP scheme in view of the fact that she commenced the scheme on 1 December 1995. [14297/97]

The first year REPS payment issued to the applicant on 4 January 1996. When she applied for her second year payment on 20 February 1997, she was randomly chosen for inspection for compliance with the scheme conditions and with the Department's agri-environmental specifications. During the inspection a number of deficiencies were found. As a result, letters issued to both the applicant and her planner outlining the shortcomings and requesting that they be rectified. Until these matters have been satisfactorily resolved the applicant's second year payment cannot be made.
