Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Cigarette Prices.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

211 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline, in tabular form for each of the years from 1980 to date in 1997, the pre-budget price of a packet of 20 cigarettes, the actual increase in the price as a result of the budget, the rate of inflation in the preceding year and the proportionate increase in the consumer price index as a result of the budget increase. [14483/97]

The data requested by the Deputy are contained in tabular form. For purpose of calculation, note that the CPI weights for cigarettes changed in 1982, 1989 and 1996.
