211 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline, in tabular form for each of the years from 1980 to date in 1997, the pre-budget price of a packet of 20 cigarettes, the actual increase in the price as a result of the budget, the rate of inflation in the preceding year and the proportionate increase in the consumer price index as a result of the budget increase. The data requested by the Deputy are contained in tabular form. For purpose of calculation, note that the CPI weights for cigarettes changed in 1982, 1989 and 1996.
