218 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance if he will give direct grants or tax breaks by way of an increased tax free allowance to families or individuals who wish to purchase computers in view of the recent policy directives aimed at increasing computer literacy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14641/97]

A large number of proposals and suggestions in the area of taxation are received every year, This year, as with previous years, all such proposals, including the one referred to by the Deputy concerning the purchase of home computers, will be given careful examination in the context of preparations for the budget.
