Written Answers - Departmental Costs.

Question:

220 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the total costs arising from the changes in name and responsibilities in respect of eight Government Departments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14798/97]

The changes in responsibilities of Government Departments involves, in general, an Exchequerneutral transfer of staff and other resources between them. Changes in the name of Departments generate costs in relation to changes to ministerial seals, signs in departmental properties and stationery, the costs of which are borne by the administrative budgets of Departments and do not require individual sanction from my Department. Full information is therefore not yet available to me on the total costs arising from these changes. The most up-to-date information available to me, is set out below:

Public Enterprise

The total costs to date are £10,036.

This is made up as follows;

Departmental signs — £2,421

Ministerial seals — £4,349

Stationery — £3,266

Social, Community & Family Affairs

It has not been possible to obtain details of total costs.

Environment & Local Government

The total costs to date are £5,613.

This is made up as follows:

Ministerial seals — £4,065

Stationery — £1,548

Health & Children

The total costs are expected to be in the region of £4,300.

Marine & Natural Resources

It has not been possible to obtain details of total costs.

Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht & the Islands.

The total costs to date are £7,741.86.

Tourism, Sport & Recreation

It has not been possible to obtain details of total costs.

Enterprise, Trade & Employment

The total costs are expected to be in the region of £5,134.

Agriculture & Food

The total costs are expected to be in the region of £18,000.
