Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Michael Ring

Question:

245 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called to the Adelaide Hospital, Dublin 8, for a hip operation in view of the fact that she is in severe pain and can no longer leave her home. [14313/97]

I understand from the Adelaide Hospital that the person in question is on the routine waiting list for orthopaedic surgery since December 1996. The hospital is not able to give a date of admission at this time. The scheduling of surgery is a matter for the clinical judgment of the consultant concerned, is based solely on the patient's condition and not on the length of time on the waiting list. Emergency cases are given priority. The patient's general practitioner should, accordingly, keep the consultant informed on a regular basis of the patient's condition.

Question:

246 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for a scan in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9, in view of the fact that she has been waiting for this scan since her injury occurred in national school and she is now attending second year of university and she is in extreme discomfort and pain. [14317/97]

I understand from Beaumont Hospital that the person in question is scheduled for a MRI scan on 25 November 1997.
