Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

372 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if an oral hearing can be scheduled for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo in relation to his unemployment appeal. [14332/97]

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance at a total weekly rate of £ 77.70. Following a review of his entitlement, means of £ 50 were assessed against him based on his wife's earnings and a deciding officer reduced his rate of unemployment assistance to £ 27.70 per week from 12 February 1997.

He appealed against this decision to the social welfare appeals office and an appeals officer disallowed his appeal and he was notified of the decision on 30 June 1997. Following receipt of a request for an oral hearing of his appeal, the appeals officer agreed to reopen the appeal. The oral hearing will take place in Claremorris on 7 October 1997. The person concerned has been notified of the arrangements.
