Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - PRSI Rebate.

Michael Ring

Question:

403 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid a rebate of his PRSI. [14755/97]

Self-employed persons who enter social insurance for the first time after age 56 can claim a refund of the pension element of their social insurance contributions on reaching age 66, provided they have no entitlement to either a contributory or non-contributory old age pension.

The person concerned was over age 56 when he entered insurable self-employment in 1988 and he is not entitled to a pension. He is, therefore, entitled to a refund of the pension entitlement of his social insurance contribution.

The refund due to him, which will cover the years 1988-89, 1989-90 and 1990-91, will amount to £ 141.08 and will issue to him shortly.
