Question:

441 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will make a statement on the establishment of digital music libraries as outlined in the Programme for Government; if she will indicate the proposed number of such libraries; the proposed location of such libraries; the projected cost element involved; and when such digital libraries will become a reality. [14836/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 437, 440 and 441 together.

The matters referred to by the Deputy are identified as key priorities in relation to the Arts in the programme for Government, An Action Programme for the Millennium.

The report of the FORTE taskforce recommended that a music board should be established to promote and develop the indigenous music industry. I am considering the recommendation to establish a music board and would envisage that it would be part of the remit of such a board to consider issues such as the provision of music libraries, the creative environment for performing artists, the possibility of attracting artists such as producers to Ireland and the improvement of infrastructural facilities such as recording studios, etc.
