Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Departmental Staff.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

533 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the staff numbers in the immigration section of his Department who are dedicated to processing applications from asylum seekers; and the plans, if any, there are to increase staffing levels. [15014/97]

At present there are 20 staff in my Department's immigration and citizenship division dedicated to processing applications from asylum seekers.

I have received Government approval for the recruitment of additional staff to my Department for this work and the detailed arrangements for this recruitment are being made in consultation with the Department of Finance and staff interests.
