Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Remedial Teachers.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

585 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education if he will accede to the request from a school (details supplied) in County Dublin, with 930 pupils, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, for the allocation of a resource or remedial teacher to the staff; and when he will make a decision on this urgent matter. [14595/97]

Nora Owen

Question:

586 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if he will provide a resource or remedial teacher to Loreto School, Balbriggan, County Dublin. [14596/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 585 and 586 together.

I am sure that the Deputies will appreciate that there are many competing demands for increased funding in all sectors of education. These demands are considered within the overall budgetary constraints and I can assure the Deputies that the position of this school will be kept under review and will be considered when next it is possible to allocate additional ex-quota remedial and resource posts.
