Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Newbridge (Kildare) Employment.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

107 Mr. Stagg asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the proposed closure of the Royal Liver office in Newbridge, County Kildare, with the loss of 26 jobs; and if she will make direct contact with the company with a view to preventing the closure and job losses. [14845/97]

I am aware of the proposed closure of the office in question and regret any loss of jobs which may arise. The company involved has informed my Department that the closure arises from an overall restructuring of its operations in order to improve competitiveness and provide an improved service to clients.

It is understood from the company that only four staff members are directly affected by the closure decision and are being offered relocation to the company's Dublin office. The remainder of the 23 people employed will continue to work in the Newbridge area and are not affected by the closure decision.
