Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Coillte Investment.

Nora Owen

Question:

108 Mrs. Owen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the implications of Coillte's investment in a Northern Ireland sawmill for sawmills throughout the country; and the risks to their employees. [14872/97]

Discussions have taken place over the past three weeks addressing the implications of Coillte's proposed purchase. These meetings have involved Coillte, Forbairt, my Department, the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources and the Department of Finance. I have been advised that a number of issues will need to be addressed by Coillte before I should comment on these implications. It is hoped that clarifications will be received within two weeks and I will communicate with the Deputy at that time.
