116 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason for the delay in the issuing of a sea fishing boat licence to a person (details supplied) in County Louth; and when this licence will issue. [14554/97]
I am advised that the person to whom the Deputy refers applied for a sea fishing boat licence in October 1996. The replacement capacity offered by the applicant had been sold abroad in the 1980s, was not in consequence entered on the current sea fishing boat register and, therefore, is not eligible for tonnage replacement purposes. The Department's records suggest that this application was subsequently withdrawn. In the circumstances, I would ask that the individual concerned should contact the Department with a view to clarifying the status of this application and his intentions generally.
