Vol. 481 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cervical Smear Clinic.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

163 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Health and Children if a cervical smear clinic will be provided at the Shiel Hospital, Ballyshannon, County Donegal, as a matter of urgency. [15540/97]

I understand from the North-Western Health Baord that there are no proposals at present to provide a specific cervical smear testing clinic in Ballyshannon. However the situation will be kept under review.

Currently the GPs in the Ballyshannon-Bundoran area provide designated Women's Health Clinics. Three clinics are held monthly in Ballyshannon and one clinic per week in Bundoran. The clinic services are provided by a female practitioner and any health issues relating to women, including cervical smear testing, can be dealt with at these clinics.
