Vol. 481 No. 1

Written Answers. - Library Projects.

Austin Currie

Question:

188 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will provide the necessary funding for a library at Lucan, County Dublin where a site has been provided in view of the fact that his Department granted approval in principle in 1992 and the population of Lucan has increased by 140 per cent since then and that a library for Lucan is number one on the priority list of South Dublin County Council as the current mobile library service is inadequate. [15657/97]

Revised sketch design and cost plan proposals for a new branch library in Lucan were received by my Department in September 1996 and are being considered. However, having regard to the high level of demand for funding for library proposals generally, it is not posisble to indicate when the proposals may be approved. South Dublin County Council has benefited greatly from library funding in recent years.
