Vol. 481 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Stagg. I call on Deputy Stagg to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I seek permission to move that Dáil Éireann be adjourned under Standing Order 31 to allow the Taoiseach outline whether the Government will honour its firm commitment to fully fund the legal cost of the case being taken by Dundalk residents against British Nuclear Fuels Limited in regard to the reprocessing plant at Sellafield, Cumbria, and any subsequent appeals to higher and European courts, and the commitment to fund the necessary medical and technical research for the case; and if he will remove the cap on the payment of £200,000 committed as an interim payment by the previous Government. I seek to move this on the basis that the House was misled——

The Deputy must confine his remarks to the notice he gave me. Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
