Question:247 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will grant permanent recognition to Coláiste na Coiribe secondary school, Tuam Road, Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15407/97]

: City of Galway Vocational Education Committee applied in January 1997 for the permanent recognition of Coláiste na Coiribe. This application was turned down as it was considered that the development of the Coláiste, which was then in its fifth year of operation, was less than satisfactory in terms of pupil numbers.
The application is currently being reconsidered in my Department in the light of the latest enrolments and the committee will be informed of the position as soon as possible.
