Willie Penrose

Question:

252 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will authorise building work to commence on the new school to replace existing accommodation at Clonaslee vocational school, County Laois; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15423/97]

: A new school has been approved by my Department to replace the existing vocational school in Clonaslee, County Laois. Architectural planning of the proposed building has commenced. Pre-Stage 2, outline sketch scheme documentation is currently being examined by my Department's technical staff and this examination will be completed in a matter of days.

The question of funding for construction work does not arise at this stage of planning, however, every effort will be made to expedite progress on the project.

The proposed extension includes provision for a PE hall of 336m2. and changing facilities of 104m2. Stage II documentation, outline sketch scheme, is being prepared by the school's design team.
