Vol. 481 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Liam Aylward

Question:

269 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will have arrangements made to make finance immediately available to the board of management of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for the provision of a fire exit and wheelchair access entrance in view of the recommendations of the chief fire officer. [15580/97]

: In February 1997, the manager of the school referred to by the Deputy applied to my Department for grant assistance towards the cost of providing a fire exit and wheelchair access at the school.

My Department's building unit sought a report on the matter from the local Office of Public Works. This report indicated that the proposed works fall within the scope of the devolved grant scheme for minor improvement works to primary school properties and the school manager was advised accordingly in April 1997. The money due to each primary school under this scheme issued in May 1997.
