280 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give details of the staffing levels at Padre Pio national school, Churchfield, on 1 June 1996, 1 June 1997 and 1 October 1997. [15602/97]

283.

(Mayo)asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has agreed to the retention of teachers at schools (details supplied) in County Mayo which were scheduled to lose a teacher each. [15605/97]

: The Deputy will be pleased to know that four of the five schools mentioned by him have retained the staffing allocations which they had for the 1996-97 school year.

I regret, however, that the other school referred to by him lost a teaching post for the 1997-98 school year. The school in question had an enrolment of 84 pupils on 30 September 1996, a decrease of ten pupils on the previous year's figure. This enrolment warrants a staffing of a principal and two assistant teachers for the 1997-98 school year.
