Vol. 481 No. 1

Written Answers. - Beef Intervention.

Ivor Callely

Question:

30 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the procedure which a charity, group or person in the community should initiate to avail of intervention beef; if he has satisfied himself with current arrangements in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15406/97]

The procedure which a charity, person or group must apply to avail of intervention beef for distribution to the most deprived persons in the community is as follows: each applicant catering for deprived persons must apply to my Department outlining the number of people catered for and the quantity of beef required.

Applications are examined by my Department and if found to be in order, the eligible applicants are then issued with a form indicating the quantity of beef to be allocated on a monthly basis.

I am satisfied with the current arrangements in respect of this scheme.
