Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

43 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the highest level of payment in the form of ewe premia and disadvantaged area payments made to any individual applicant for such payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15496/97]

The highest amount paid to any applicant in respect of all instalments of 1996 ewe premium was £49,648.70 and involved 2,546 ewes. This included £14,023.02 in respect of rural world premium. These payments, of course, were exceptional. The average amount paid in respect of all instalments of the 1996 ewe premium was £1,871.
