97 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence if he will issue a full list of names of all appointments and the State organisation to which the appointments were made in relation to each appointment made to bodies under the aegis of his Department during the months of May and June 1997; the period of the appointment; and the date on which the next appointments will be made for each body. 98 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for Defence the number of appointments made to boards or bodies under the aegis of his Department between 1 May 1997 and 26 June 1997; the names of the appointees; the boards to which they were appointed; and the number of board vacancies which remained vacant after 26 June, but which could have been filled prior to 26 June. [15567/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 97 and 98 together.

The following is a list of nominees to the Central Council of the Irish Red Cross Society who were approved as nominees by Government in April, 1997. They were appointed to the council for the period 1 May, 1997 to 30 April, 2000: Mr. Pat O'Reilly; Mr. Des Kavanagh; Mr. Jim O'Loughlin; Ms Colette Treanor; Mr. Robert Byrne; Ms Geraldine McLaughlin; Ms Margaret Garry; Ms Deirdre Healy; Ms Elaine Bolger; Mr. John Lovett; Mr. John Costin; Ms Carmel O'Brien; Mr. Gerry O'Sullivan; Mrs. Hannagh Cuddy; Mr. James Sewell; Mr. Richie Ryan.

There were no vacancies on the council after 26 June 1997.

Appointments were made to the Board of Coiste an Asgard on 23 June 1997 as follows: Mr. John Boland; Mr. Manus Brennan; Ms Madlin Curran; Mr. Vincent Fitzgerald; Ms Avril Harris; Mr. Enda O'Coineen and Mr. Gerard O'Donnell.
Each director appointed by the Minister holds office for a period of five years unless he/she is removed from office or retires in accordance with the provisions of the Articles of Coiste and Asgard.
There were no vacanices on the board of Coiste an Asgard as 26 June 1997.
In the normal course of events the earliest date on which a vacancy will occur on this board will be 30 April 2000.
