Vol. 481 No. 2

Written Answers. - UK Tax Changes.

Seán Barrett

Question:

39 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Finance the impact on Ireland of the proposed abolition of advance corporation tax in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15720/97]

Like the Deputy, my information is limited to what I have read in press reports. On that basis, I am unwilling to speculate on the possible effect of unannounced UK tax changes. For the Deputy's information, the changes in the United Kingdom's July 1997 budget included the reduction of the rate of tax credit attaching to dividends paid by companies and the cessation of payment of tax credits by the inland revenue to pension funds. However, no changes were announced at that time in relation to advance corporation tax.
