Question:

120 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance the statistics regarding taxes on personal income as a percentage of GDP and taxes on personal income as a percentage of total taxation for Ireland and all other members of the EU for 1996 and to date in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16163/97]

Taxes on personal income as a percentage of GDP and as a percentage of total taxation for Ireland and other EU countries for 1995 are included in the following table. Data for 1996 and 1997 are not yet available. The tax data are taken from the 1997 edition of Revenue Statistics 1965-1996 produced by the OECD. Estimates of gross domestic product are taken from Eurostat and Commission Services (Economic Forecasts, Spring 1997).
