Question:

170 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when funding will be provided for the Tarmonbarry sewerage scheme in County Roscommon. [16210/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 169 and 170 together.

The preliminary report for the Tarmonbarry sewerage scheme is with my Department at present. The preliminary report for the north east Roscommon water supply scheme extension to Balla and Ballybeg was approved on 12 June 1997. In early September, Roscommon County Council submitted a technical specification and bill of quantities for the scheme together with a proposal to construct the scheme by direct labour. However, having regard to the existing high level of commitments under the water and sewerage investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve these schemes.
