Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Deenihan — the provision of the necessary funding to enable stage four of the Listowel regional water scheme to go ahead; (2) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the need to deal with the deplorable state of Cork Street, Dublin 8, which is the last derelict main route to the city centre; (3) Deputy Ellis — the proposed redundancies at Ballinamore Textiles, Ballinamore, County Leitrim; (4) Deputy Jim O'Keeffe — the delay in completing repairs to the Garda station at Ballinspittle, County Cork, and to urge the completion of same as soon as possible; (5) Deputy Farrelly — the procedure in place when officials of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs interview social welfare recipients and whether it is normal to tape such conversations; (6) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the non-publication of the expert report on flooding in Clonmel and the failure of the Minister of State at the Department of Finance to meet the corporation on 7 October 1997 in relation to same; (7) Deputy Cooper-Flynn — the progress of the north Mayo enterprise initiative on securing new employment for the north Mayo region as Asahi is due to cease trading in November with the loss of 315 jobs; (8) Deputy Ring — the urgent need to confirm when a school transport problem will be resolved for Killawalla national school in County Mayo; (9) Deputy Durkan — the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 110 of 1 October 1997; (10) Deputy Deasy — the need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to be informed of the rationalisation plans of the newly merged Avonmore/ Waterford Group with particular reference to jobs in both the Dungarvan and Kilmeaden plants; (11) Deputy Connaughton — the need to make public the results of a survey commissioned into the causes of the flooding problems in the Gort area of County Galway and if the findings will be laid before a public meeting of interested parties and financial assistance committed to the findings of this report; (12) Deputy Perry — the need to discuss Ryanair's decision to cease the carriage of cargo on all its services, not just those operating to Knock Airport; (13) Deputy Gerry Reynolds — the need to provide funding to the National Roads Authority in order that work can commence on the Sligo inner relief road in 1998; (14) Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny)— the sale of fireworks, especially bangers, and the need to deal with such sales; (15) Deputy Upton — the treatment of 2,000 asylum seekers who were left queuing for four hours in the rain to renew identity cards by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform on Saturday, 11 October 1997.

The matters raised by Deputies Deasy, Jim O'Keeffe, Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) and Upton have been selected for discussion.
