Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Phoenix Park.

Enda Kenny

Question:

210 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will make a statement on her policy, if any, in relation to the future preservation and presentation of the Phoenix Park, Dublin. [16245/97]

The management of the Phoenix Park is governed by the Phoenix Park Act, 1925, and the Phoenix Park, Dublin, By-Laws, 1926. The policy of my Department in relation to the preservation and presentation of the park is based on the above Acts, in conjunction with the Phoenix Park management which was developed in 1986 and which contains four main objectives: to conserve the historic landscape character of the Park; to encourage recreational use and public appreciation; to conserve natural and other values within the Park; and to develop a harmonious relationship between the park and the community.
