Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Possessory Title.

Seán Haughey

Question:

230 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Land Registry will grant possessory title to a squatter on a freehold property but will not grant possessory title to a squatter on a leasehold property as a result of the decision in a case (details supplied); if he will have the Law Reform Commission examine this situation in order that reforming legislation will be introduced to regularise the situation for many squatters in this State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16458/97]

The issue raised by the Deputy is being examined by the Law Reform Commission in the context of their examination of land law and conveyancing law. I will bring his concerns on the matter to the attention of the Commission.
