Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - RTC Funding.

Phil Hogan

Question:

245 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the difficult financial situation of Carlow Regional Technical College and the need for adequate funding to enable the college to fulfil its obligations to its students; if he will increase the budget of the college in 1997 to achieve its objectives; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16119/97]

My Department has been in ongoing discussion and correspondence with the senior management of regional technical college Carlow. I recently had a meeting regarding this issue with representatives of the governing body and management of the college in an effort to clarify the needs of the college. I have now arranged for the college authorities to meet Department officials again shortly to review the college's budget for 1997 with a view to finalising the matter.
