Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Course Eligibility.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

275 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied), who had been accepted for the Teastas i dTeagasc na Gaeilge course in 1997, was removed from the course after its commencement; the reason no explanation has been given to this person to date; the remedial action, if any, he proposes to take, in view of the considerable cost and trouble for this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16465/97]

The person in question was admitted through oversight to the 1997 Teastas i dTeagasc na Gaeilge course. He was informed of this and that he was ineligible for admission to the course immediately prior to the commencement of the course. The reason for his ineligibility was explained to him in detail on two separate occasions at that time.

My Department will write to him shortly to confirm in writing the explanation already given verbally regarding his ineligibility for the course and to apologise for failure to alert him to his ineligibiliity at an earlier date.
