Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

21 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will retain the new standards for local authority houses introduced during the 1992-94 administration which require weatherproof windows and doors and central heating in each house and substantial fencing at the front and rear of the houses. [16276/97]

I have no plans to change existing guidelines on the specifications for local authority houses. The guidelines include provision for the fitting of doors, windows and external joinery which are durable and give value for money, the installation of cost effective heating, which is safe and energy efficient, and, as appropriate, fencing to the front and rear of dwellings.
