Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

John Browne

Question:

51 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will give details of the waiting time for driving tests in Carlow; and the plans, if any, he has to increase the number of testers. [16093/97]

The waiting period for driving tests in Carlow is at present up to 27 weeks. However, applicants in need of an early test for urgent reasons, such as employment, are normally accommodated within six to ten weeks.

In an effort to help reduce waiting times, Saturday testing is currently being conducted. In addition, a package of productivity measures is being negotiated which will also provide for the engagement of a number of testers on short-term contract.
