Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Army Recruitment.

Jack Wall

Question:

90 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the drop in accepted applicants for the Army Apprentice School, Naas, County Kildare; if it is his Department's intention to increase official applicant numbers in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16159/97]

The number of appprentices enlisted in any year is determined having regard to requirements in particular trades. A competition for the recruitment of seventeen apprentices, ten of whom will be assigned to the Army Apprentice School, Naas, is taking place at present. The question of apprentice recruitment in 1998 has not yet had consideration in the Department.
