Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Courts Accommodation.

Michael Ferris

Question:

52 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the proposals, if any, he has received from South Tipperary County Council for refurbishment and urgent repairs to Tipperary Town court house; when approval will be given for the necessary works to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17082/97]

I can confirm to the Deputy that my Department has received proposals from South Tipperary County Council for works to Tipperary Town courthouse. However, these proposals provide only for repair works and do not provide for any upgrading of the facilities in the courthouse.

As part of my Department's ongoing courts building programme it is intended that the courthouse in Tipperary town will be refurbished and upgraded. I can confirm to the Deputy that the repair works to the courthouse will be included as part of the refurbishment project. Given the current demands on that programme I am unable to say at this stage when this refurbishment work will take place.
