Written Answers - Grant Payments.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

96 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will have examinations made into the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who is a young mother striving to survive on a lone parents allowance for herself and her seven year old child with a view to ensuring that a £500 grant is approved in order that she can undertake a course (details supplied) which could assist her overcome difficulties she has had since childhood with a stammer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18340/97]

The assessment of entitlement to a grant for this course, in any individual case, is a matter for the relevant health board. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer, Eastern Health Board, with a request that he examine the application and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
