Michael D. Higgins

Question:

33 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her views on the concern expressed by local community organisations, unemployed centres and the INOU that the Local Employment Service should not be placed under the direct control of the proposed National Employment Service Board but should retain the distinct partnership identity; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18361/97]

Question:

41 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will appoint a nominee from the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed to the National Employment Service Board; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18360/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 33 and 41 together.

I am considering a range of proposals in relation to the restructuring of FÁS. The establishment of a national employment service, is being considered in this context. I am aware of the views of the different interest groups on the range of options under consideration. I will take them fully into account before coming to any conclusions in this area.
