Written Answers. - Electricity Generating Stations.
The decommissioning of ESB peatfired electricity generating stations is a matter for the board of the ESB and not one in which I have a statutory role.
I understand from the ESB that over the next few years they intend to decommission some of the older generating units that have reached the end of their operating lives — notably the 20MW units in Rhode and Ferbane.
However, the ESB is, at the same time, actively involved in planning the refurbishment of some of the larger units, in particular refurbishing proposals are currently being finalised for unit 4 in Ferbane.
