Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - DART Rolling Stock.

Ivan Yates

Question:

139 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the provision, if any, the Government will make to ensure that extra rolling stock is being provided for the DART line in view of the inadequate capacity of the current service; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18593/97]

CIE have carried out a review of additional DART rolling stock requirements which take into consideration capacity needs. The provision of adequate rolling stock to meet capacity requirements is a day to day matter for Iarnród Éireann for which I have no responsibility. Funding has already been allocated under the Operational Programme for Transport for the purchase of five additional two-car DART units which will be delivered by 1999.
