Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Gas Interconnector.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

170 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the current position on the gas interconnector which is proposed between Northern Ireland and the Republic; the progress, if any, which has been made on the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19040/97]

I refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 24, column 1386 of 1 October 1997. The consultants' report concluded that a natural gas interconnector is technically possible and the most cost-effective means of the potential solutions considered in relation to supply issues for both sides of the Border. The estimated cost of the interconnector is £80 million.
