Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

228 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid his 1997 cattle headage payment. [19100/97]

The area aid application of the person named has not yet been cleared so as to allow payment of headage to him. Every effort is being made to clear all area aid applications, other than a small minority of very intractable cases, so that payment can be made in this and other similar cases during the next few weeks.

If the area aid application of the person named is found to be in order he should be paid cattle headage within this period.

Question:

229 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid his 1997 cattle and sheep headage. [19101/97]

The herd number quoted does not relate to the person named. If the Deputy can provide the correct details the matter can then be investigated.

Question:

230 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid her 1997 cattle and sheep headage in view of the fact that the delay is causing hardship. [19102/97]

The area aid application of the person named has not yet been cleared so as to allow payment of headage to her. Every effort is being made to clear all area aid applications, other than a small minority of very intractable cases, so that payment can be made in this and other similar cases during the next few weeks.

If the area aid application of the person named is found to be in order she should be paid cattle and sheep headage within this period.

Question:

233 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the percentage and monetary value of cattle and sheep headage paid to date in 1997; and the percentage and value of headage paid to County Mayo to date in 1997. [19105/97]

Over £57.5 million has been paid out under 1997 disadvantaged areas headage schemes to date representing just over 50 per cent of all applications received under these schemes. The position with regard to County Mayo is that over £6 million has been paid to some 46 per cent of applicants.

In view of the very severe harvest conditions which affected some parts of the country, priority was accorded to making payments under the arable aid scheme and 98 per cent of applicants under this scheme have been paid £88.7 million.

However, payments under all other headage and premia schemes are continuing at present and it is expected that all but the most intractable cases will be paid during the next three to four weeks.
