Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Buildings.

Marian McGennis

Question:

275 Ms M. McGennis asked the Minister for Finance the parks and public buildings financed by his Department or the Office of Public Works in the Dublin 8 and Dublin 10 areas; and the arrangements for public access to these sites; and the programmes, if any, for the future development of these facilities. [19069/97]

Details of the buildings in Dublin 8 and 10 to which the general public have access and on which funds have been expended from the Vote of the Office of Public Works are as follows:

Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs Offices: Ballyfermot; Victoria Street; Thomas Street; Werburgh Street.

Garda Stations: Ballyfermot; Kevin Street; Kilmainham.

Department of Defence: Infirmary Road.

Other: Ordnance Survey Office, Phoenix Park; National Archives, Bishop Street; Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

Buildings in the area (on which Office of Public Works has incurred expenditure) to which there is limited public access or access by invitation only are: Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Civil Defence School, Phoenix Park, Áras an Uachtaráin.

While Dublin Zoo is an independent, selffinancing body, the Minister for Finance is responsible for overseeing a £15 million capital development programme which was approved by Government in 1994.

Works are planned for the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs Offices in Thomas Street under the office's ongoing programme to provide disabled access facilities at State buildings. As regards general development, major projects are in train for the Ordnance Survey Office and the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.
