Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Private Rented Accommodation.

Richard Bruton

Question:

323 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the level of inspections which are currently being carried out at private rented accommodation to ensure compliance with the new regulations; and the plans, if any, he has to improve compliance in this regard. [18893/97]

Statistics on the numbers of inspections carried out by local authorities under the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations, 1993 and the Housing (Rent Books) Regulations, 1993 are published in my Department's Annual Housing Statistics Bulletin. Information on the numbers of landlords and houses registered under the Housing (Registration of Rented Houses) Regulations, 1996 are published in the quarterly Housing Statistics Bulletins. Copies of the bulletins are available in the Oireachtas Library. Local authorities, who are responsible for enforcement of the Regulations, have been urged to take all steps open to them to secure compliance by landlords with the regulations.
