Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Illegal Gambling.

Richard Bruton

Question:

378 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to illegal gambling activities being carried on in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18888/97]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that, while the matter is subject to ongoing review, there is no evidence to suggest that there is a problem with illegal gambling activity in the Dublin metropolitan area. At present there is one prosecution pending before the courts.

The enforcement of the law in relation to illegal gambling is a matter for the Garda authorities. If the Deputy is aware of the law being broken in this regard, I would urge him to pass on the details to his local gardaí.
