Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

426 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when his Department will contact the authorities at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, County Kildare in order to expedite the relevant procedures to prepare the project for tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18479/97]

My Department's building unit is presently awaiting stage 2 - outline sketch scheme - documentation from the design team in respect of the project at Scoil Mhuire. When this has been examined and found to be in order by the technical staff of the building unit, approval will immediately be given to proceed to the next stage of architectural planning.

At this stage, it is not possible to say when construction will begin.

Question:

427 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the initiatives, if any, his Department will take in order to expedite the provision of a second level girls' school to replace St Wolstan's at Celbridge, County Kildare; if so, the form these initiatives will take; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18480/97]

Stage 2 architectural planning for the new community school in Celbridge has been completed and approved by the Department and the design team is now preparing the next stage which is detailed design. The design team has also recently applied for planning permission.

It is not possible at this point to say when construction will commence. However, I can assure the Deputy that every effort will be made, in co-operation with the design team, to advance the project to the point where tenders can be obtained in the shortest time possible.
