Vol. 482 No. 6
431 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a school (details supplied) in County Mayo was not offered a B post in view of the most recent teacher's pay agreement. [18484/97]
432 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science whether a teacher is allowed to retain his or her privileged assistant status or privileged assistant's allowance when he or she resigns as a principal of one school to take up the position of assistant in another school. [18485/97]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 431 and 432 together.
Earlier this year, my Department implemented the first phase of revised in-school management structures in primary schools as part of the Agreement on Pay and Conditions of Teachers under Clause 2(iii) of Annex 1 of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work.
In accordance with the criteria governing the agreement, the presence on the staff of a school of a teacher holding a post of responsibility allowance on a personal basis inhibited the appointment of a grade B post.
The school to which the Deputy refers has a member of staff holding an allowance on a personal basis. Accordingly, the board of management of the school is not entitled to appoint a grade B post holder to the staff of its school.
As a result of information now available to my Department, a review of the case has commenced, with a view to reaching a conclusion which will be reasonable and fair to all parties involved.
My Department's review is almost complete and a formal ruling will be made in this matter in the near future. I will be pleased to inform the Deputy of the outcome of this review.
