Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

437 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will approve the application for free school transport from a school (details supplied) in County Kildare in view of the fact that this school is the local school of children in the northern part of the Carbury parish; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18636/97]

The children who attend the school in question live less than two miles from other nearer schools and, therefore, in accordance with the terms of the school transport scheme, are not eligible for free transport. Accordingly, I regret that it would not be open to my Department to approve a transport service for the children as requested.
