Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Pat Carey

Question:

70 Mr. P. Carey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason it has not been possible to have a work permit renewed for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who had been working with a refugee community development project in the Dublin area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19041/97]

I understand that the individual concerned initially entered the country under an exchange visitor programme. A subsequent work permit application, submitted on her behalf to my Department, was refused because the proposed employee would have been employed on a part-time basis and it is the policy of my Department not to consider such applications.
