Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Spawning and Nursery Streams.

John Perry

Question:

78 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the current position on the proposal submitted by the North West Fishery Board seeking EU funding for the development of spawning and nursery streams in the Lough Arrow catchment area in County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18689/97]

Projects submitted for EU funding under the Tourism Angling Measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99, are subject to the following assessment and decision making process:

—a preliminary assessment by the EU Projects Unit of the Central Fisheries Board (viz. financial, cost-benefit, tourism yield etc.);

—technical, operational, management and financial assessment by a Technical Evaluation Committee and

—assessment and final decisions by a Management Committee.
I am advised that the Lough Arrow project submitted by the North Western Regional Fisheries Board is on the agenda for consideration at the next meetings of the Technical Evaluation and Management Committees which are due to be held early in December this year.
