Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Scheme.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

88 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of the 143 naturalisations, which have taken place in accordance with the investment based scheme established by Government decision of December 1988, which were issued with Irish passports; the procedures used for the issue of these passports; whether normal procedures were followed in these applications; and, if not, if he will give details of the normal procedures not adhered to; and the reason for the non-compliance with procedures in this regard. [18874/97]

The Department of Foreign Affairs is not provided with details of foreign nationals to whom certificates of naturalisation are issued and it is not possible to identify passport holders solely on the basis of how citizenship was acquired. In the circumstances the Passport Office is not in a position to provide the information requested.

If the Deputy is interested in any specific case and can provide the Department with the name of the person concerned I will be happy to have this examined.
